South Holston Lake - Gill Netting 2011

Sampling Date: December 1, 2011
Species collected in survey (6 net nights):

Walleye - 73

On December 1, 2011 the TWRA collected 73 walleye in six experimental gill nets on South Holston Reservoir. The gill nets were set from near Observation Knob Park downstream to near the dam.

The catch rate was above average for the third consecutive year with 12.2 fish collected per net night. A large percentage of the fish (58%) were above the 18-inch minimum size limit, indicating that walleye are recruiting into the larger size classes.

The above average catch rate combined with the large percentage of walleye over 18-inches, indicates that fishing should be good in 2012.
