Melton Hill Reservoir Muskie Floy Tagging
(This page was last updated: 03/07/2010)
The TWRA began tagging Melton Hill muskie in March of 2009 with bright yellow Floy tags, otherwise known as t-bar anchor tags. These NON-REWARD TAGS are similar to those used in the clothing industry to attach various types of labels. Twenty-nine fish ranging from 24 to 47-inches have been double tagged thus far. Anglers are asked to leave the tags on the fish and report the two tag numbers and location of their catch to TWRA's Jim Negus or Tennessee Tech University's Phil Bettoli.

Anglers are not obligated to release a fish that is over the minimum size limit of 50-inches, but are encouraged to do so for the sake of research and to help the limited fishery develop.
As of March 7, 2010, anglers have recaptured nine of TWRA's Floy-tagged fish. Two fish have also recently been recaptured via electrofishing. Two of the recaptured fish had lost one of their tags and it is important that anglers who report a recapture note if both tags are attached. The tags now have a great deal of algae attached so one will have to clear off the end of the tag to read the numbers.
